Reborn Chop Suey opens with new ownership, new look. The bookings are as mixed as the dish its named after electronica, hip-hop, alt-rock and other creative rumblings from Seattles music underground.' Regular dance events held at the venue include Candi Pop and Dance Yourself Clean. Reborn under new ownership in 2015, it now serves burger-biased food as well as booze and music. Each lineup is definitely worth attending, with highlights like Lures at Conor Byrne at 9 and Jarv Dee at 10 at the Sunset, but it should be an extra special evening at the Tractor, with Princess (whose stellar record “Selling Sulphur” currently numbers among our Loud Rock rotations), Constant Lovers and The Intelligence almost all back to back. Lonely Planet says, 'Chop Suey is a small, dark space with high ceilings and a ramshackle faux-Chinese motif. Bringing together 27 different bands in a single day is an impressive endeavor, and I applaud the folks behind the festival for making it happen (see the Seattle Weekly’s article for the origin of Macefield and its importance in regard to local history and music). Saturday, starting at 4pm, the Macefield Music Festival will take place simultaneously at the Sunset Tavern, the Tractor Tavern, and the Conor Byrne Pub (all 21+ sorry, minors). Thickening the ranks are local giants Heiress, Dogs of War and Caligula. Tonight at The Josephine in Ballard, the Seattle Passive Aggressive (a pretty sweet local music mag, if you haven’t checked it out yet) presents the record release show for Seattle noise punks Great Falls and their album “Accidents Grotesque” (stream it here from Decibel Magazine).
